About The Founders

Derek Robertson President

Aado (pronounced: "ey-doh") Designs, started training for his place in the field of design and architecture more than 35 years ago, when he tagged along with his own father, Thomas Robertson, an architectural draftsman, taking measurements for the various residential and commercial projects that he completed in and around the Ottawa region.

After several years of architectural and mechanical drafting in high school and college, as well as apprenticing in homebuilding for many years, in 1984, Derek moved to Toronto, Ontario, and started a new business specializing in the construction of new housing.
Robertson Construction Ltd. built more than 400 tract and custom homes over the next seven years surrounding the G.T.A.

Rencon Construction Ltd., a subsidiary of Robertson Construction Ltd., set up to accommodate slow periods in the building industry and address changing needs, specialized in producing architectural drawings for custom homes, quantity surveys (estimates), and fire restoration on both residential and commercial projects throughout most of the late eighties

Derek moved back to Ottawa in 1991, to further his education and increase his technical skills, including continuing in a Construction Engineering Technology program, and in 1998, formed a new company.

DT Robertson Construction Inc. produced more than 250 tract and custom homes for such builders as Tamarack , Urbandale, Richcraft, Phoenix, Cardel, Ashcroft and Claridge Homes.

After receiving specialized Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) training in the United States, and in Ontario, in 2000, Mr. Robertson started Aado Designs,  to serve the Ottawa region with innovative building design services. Since that time, Aado Designs has completed various projects throughout Ontario and Quebec, from full house plans to small additions.

Derek has successfully guided hundreds of homeowners through the planning and building of their custom homes and renovations. His talent is in applying his experience, knowledge and professionalism to every aspect of the building process while keeping focused on the unique requirements of each homeowner.
